The Sounds of Israel

Looking for an easy way to learn Hebrew? Want to be more in touch with Israeli popular culture? Trying to find an easy way to make an event a little more Israeli? Israeli music is here to fill your needs!

Most of my favorite songs are modern Israeli pop songs, and not just because they're Israeli, either! Israeli music has such a wide range of genres and depths, and they are all an important part of understanding Israel today.

ת (Shevet Achim V'Achayot) שבת אחים ואחיות

This song, written by Idan Raichel and sung by over 30 Israeli artists, was composed for Israel's 71st Independence Day and focuses on the diverse history and the present Israel. (chill)

ת Chaverot Shelach) - Omer Adam) חברות שלך

Omer Adam is one of the most popular musicians in Israel today, and this song is one of the gems of his career. A fun song that can be played at any event or even a party! (upbeat)

ת Yom Hashishi) - Omer Adam) יום השישי

Adam, while a pop artist, tends to root many of his songs in Jewish texts, such as "Modeh Ani" or this song, in which the chorus is "Vay'chulu," a prayer said during Shabbat Ma'ariv. (chill)

ת Adon HaSelichot) - Hanan Ben-Ari & E-Z) אדון הסליחות

While not on Spotify, this collaboration between religious musician Hanan Ben-Ari and popular (very secular) artist E-Z demonstrates the connection between religion and secular culture in Israel. (chill)

Kol Hachevre - E-Z

This song is so much fun and another chill song to listen to in the car, with your friends, or when you're just walking down the street. (chill)

Check out the two playlists below—the left with upbeat music, and the right with more relaxing vibes—for my recommendations (and some more I didn't mention)!
